Homalin Township, Sagaing Division, According to No. (1) Battalion of the local People’s Defense Forces, Khan Tee District statement on February 2st, 2023 said that Shwe Pyi Aye town in Homalin Township was took over by the People’s Defense Joint Forces on February 1st.
Together with the People’s Defense Forces, allied forces raided and occupied the city, and the fighting between the two sides was intense. During the battle, the SAC troops used an attack helicopter. So far, there has been no further fighting in the city, and some local residents are reportedly avoiding the area due to fear of an aerial attack by the SAC army.
The joint forces with PDFs controlled New Shwe Pyi Aye Hospital, general administration office and departmental offices said residents, but the city police station has not been seized yet.
Homalin PDF has informed the local people that the fighting in the city may continue to intensify. Shwe Pyi Aye town in Homalin township was founded by General Thar Aye, the commander of Sagaing Division during the previous military regime.
It is known to have an area of 3.96 square miles and a population of over 2,500.
