Nyaunglaybin District, according to KNU’s press release today, nearly 1,600 residents are fleeing because the army entered Moan township, arrested 3 civilians for no reason, and set fire to 12 houses.
On September 14th, an army column entered the village of Nga Htwe Sote in Moan Township, and among the 8 civilians who stayed in the village, 60-year-old Naw Do Gay, 50-year-old Naw Dai Yi Soe and 30-year-old Ma Mya Than Sein were arrested and burned down 12 houses in the village.
In addition, KNU said that since the military column was deployed after entering Nga Htwe Su village and Myat Ye village, on September 15th and stationed there. As a result, 1534 people in 192 houses in Lelay Karen village and Lelay Bama village were fleeing.
As the army entered the villages and deployed, the buffaloes and cattle were eating the farm land and villagers were losing property. Now is the rainy season, so the fleeing people need basic food, facing insufficient supplies of medicine and shelter.
Humanitarian aid is urgently needed for the villagers. About 70 people from 12 houses in Yan Myo Aung Village and Tamaw Ma Village are also facing flood risk, and if they want help, people who want to help can contact relevant groups, according to KNU’s press release.
