Northern Shan State Shan Human Rights Foundation (SHRF) reported that 2 civilians were killed and several others were injured when the military council’s mortars’ shelling hit them in KutKai Township. During the fighting between the Kachin Liberation Army (KIA) and the military council in KutKai township from July 8 to 18, 2 civilians were killed and 6 were injured due to the military council firing with heavy weapons.
On the night of July 8th, one hundred strong the Lashio-based Light infantry batallion-507 and Hsenwi-based infantry-69, near Hsenwi town was ambushed by the KIA troops who were active along the Mandalay-Muse Road. On July 16th, a weapon fired by the military council’s forces fell into the village of Khomone and exploded, killing one woman.
On July 18th, a weapon fired by the Namphatka-based Light infantry batallion -123 unit fired into the Zeedavan village, injuring 4 people. Among them, a 16-year-old boy died in Kutkai Hospital, according to the Shan Human Rights Foundation. Currently, about 220 local people from Kaung yar Village and Manpain Village are taking refuge in Khomone Village’s Church, and the Military Council troops are stationed inside Kaung yar Village.
