On April 1, the Yangon Electricity Corporation released 3 points regarding why there are power outages in Myanmar, especially in big cities like Yangon and Mandalay. According to the statement, since the summer has arrived, the capacity of large hydropower plants to produce electricity is decreasing, and power plants that can produce electricity 24 hours a day have been blasted several times, and the national power system has been without electricity for a long time. It is reported that due to the increase in day and night temperature, electricity consumption in Yangon region has increased by about 250 megawatts.
Secondly, on March 27th, tower (2) of the 230 KV Thaton-Mawlamyine power line was destroyed by explosion, which affected the distribution of power without the ability to transmit 80 megawatts of power from Mawlamyine natural gas power plant to the national power grid system 24 hours a day. Finally, due to security reasons, the repair work of the
towers may take approximately one week, reducing the emergency load. It is published to understand the temporary load reduction. As a result of these incidents, the people of Yangon are not getting electricity, and their business are being delayed. The electric shortage is the most mental disturbing for people in Yangon.
