Tanintharyi Township The 556th Light Infantry Battalion of the Military Council Army based in Zweywa was fired at two times on September 19th, according to a statement released by the Tanintharyi Region People’s Defense Force today.
Military Council Army’s No. 556 Light Infantry Battalion was attacked by People’s Defense Force (PDF), Myeik District Battalion (2) and Tanintharyi Township People’s Defense Team joined forces.
It was reported that the battalion was fired upon by a heavy weapon and that it exploded inside the battalion and injured persons were transported to Myeik Township with 2 ambulances.
The 556 Light Infantry Battalion has a gate at the intersection of Zweya Road and is extorting money from tourists.
It is said that it is the battalion that two soldiers surrendered with weapons to the KNLA in the area of Brigade (6) a few days ago. It is reported that the Tanintharyi Region PDF has appealed to the public to follow the precautions issued by the PDF when traveling within Tanintharyi Township.
