The coup military council convened an NDSC meeting on January 31st, and themilitary leader reported to acting President Myint Swe that Myanmar stillhas an unusual situation.
The coup leader presented the situation in Myanmarduring the 2-year period. The military leader accused the CRPH, NUG, and PDF have been committing acts of terrorism and that the country has not yetreached a normal state because of these groups.
On the morning of February 1, 2021, before the start of the parliamentary sessions, the military seized the leaders of the civilian government andcarried out a coup d’état. The SAC announced that the resolutions of the NDSC meeting will be announced tomorrow, February 1st, 2023, the 2nd anniversary of the coup.
According to the 2008 constitution, which wascustom-drafted by the military, the country can only declare a state ofemergency for up to 2 years, and on the day of the 2-year anniversary, the power must be returned to the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC).
But some former military generals have been predicted to extend the state of emergency if the country continues to be in an abnormal state, months before the coup is two years old. Regardless of what the 2008 constitution stipulates, the military council leader will not relinquish power but will continue to hold it in a different form, according to political analysts.
The ethnic armed revolutionary groups, including the NUG, who are fighting against the military council, consider the military group illegally overthrowing the elected civilian government and committing treason by violating the constitution drafted by itself since the coup.
In addition, the 2008 constitution has already been announced as invalid after the coup. After the coup d’état, the military leader convened a meeting in NDSC and appointed Vice President Myint Swe, who was nominated by the military, as interim president and declared a state of emergency.
