Because of the Mokha cyclone, lights poles, cables, transformers and substations were damaged in Rakhine State.
The military council announced on May 22 that the generators will be running to give electricity while the power outage is being repaired. The cyclone cut off electricity in the northern part of Rakhine such as townships like Myaypon, Minbya, Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun, Sittwe, Rathedaung, Maungdaw, Kyaukpyu, and Pauktaw. Since then, area is still without electricity.
The Military council said the Yangon Electricity Corporation YESC will do the job.

The electric power transmission lines such as 230 KV Ponnagyun sub station power grid and 230KV Ann- Mrauk-U national power grid’s electric towers were damaged which transmit electricity to northern Rakhine including Sittwe city due to Mokha cyclone.
But the military council did not clarify that which towns will get substitute electric generators to transmit electricity in detail while repairing the power grids.
Right now people are spending money to charge their phones, power banks, and batteries for communication and using charcoal fire to cook food. Due to cyclone Mokha 17 township in Rakhine are under disaster area and the recovery period has been set at 6 months, and the return to the original situation has been set at 3 years.
