Yesterday (January 3rd) at around 7:00 p.m., a refugee woman was killed when 2 mortar shelling fired by the military council exploded on the military evacuee camp in Htwe So (lime stone mountain), west of De Moso.
The shell penetrated the roof of the tent in the refugee camp and pierced the right thigh of the woman who was sleeping in the tent, killing her. “ My father and mother work in the village during the day, and sleep in the refugee camp at night.
We are separated because I am married, also my brother is not with us because he is a soldier. The two of them were still in the tent when a heavy weapon fell. The first shot hit the tent and hit her thigh while my father was calling my mother to prostrate. She did not even have time to receive medical treatment, and died,” the victim’s son told Karenni’s Voice.
The person who died was 58-year-old Daw Soomra from Donoku village. “ Another bullet fell near the top of the mountain. It was the second shell that hit her. At around 11:00 yesterday morning, the military council opened mortar shelling on Loi kaw, injuring two civilians. In November of last year, a 5-year-old boy was killed when a mortar shell exploded at a preschool in the village of Donoku. In the year 2022, at least 38 civilians, including children, were killed in Karenni State due to the military council mortar shelling and 4 elderly people died of cardiac arrest as a result of the weapons fire. – January 4th 2023.
