While the news about the expansion of military facilities with the help of China was spreading, the coup leader of the military council, General Min Gyi Aung Hlaing, arrived on the island. It is reported that the leader of the military council arrived at Koko Island yesterday.
The trip was to attend the ceremony of erecting a stone pillar at the meeting point of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. In the past few days, Indian news has reported that the Burmese military is expanding the construction of military facilities on the strategically important Cocoa Island in the Bay of Bengal with the help of China.
According to Bloomberg News, it was confirmed by satellite images that a runway has been built on the island with the help of China. The Indian side has accused the Burmese military of building an intelligence base on Cocoa Island with China’s help.
Koko Island is in Yangon Region and is about 260 nautical miles away from Yangon.
