Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, the Permanent Representative of Myanmar, made a speech at the UNICEF Executive Board annual regular meeting held on June 13 at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
There are more than 1.5 million displaced people in Myanmar, and more than 5.8 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance, he said.
He added that businesses that would enable children to have a safe education and health care are being blocked by the military’s 4-cut policy, and the international community needs to quickly coordinate and cooperate with the military’s crimes. Some children in Myanmar have been sheltering from the danger of military airstrikes in temporary tents.
According to U Kyaw Moe Tun, about 3.7 million children are being learning in bomb shelters and cannot have a chance to learn in community schools after the coup.
