Myanmar military’s military conduct a strategy against sexual violence as political oppression, Burma’s ambassador to the United Nations said in the UN Security Council that Burmese military is systematically used as threats and retaliation.
Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun spoke at a discussion titled “ Women and Peace and Security: sexual violence in conflict” held at the Security Council at the United Nations headquarters in New York on July 14. Among the Burmese people, especially women and girls, they are facing dire situations due to the brutal actions of the military dictator.
The UN Secretary-General and SRSG say that Myanmar’s military and border guards under the military are responsible for sexual violence during armed conflicts. Pattern has also been included as suspected culprits in this year’s report.
Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun also requested that the Security Council adopt a stronger resolution as a follow-up to Resolution 2669 adopted in 2022.
